Testing, Testing...
The image of Zaaarg is just for fun.I'm actually posting to show you my latest animation test. Animation typically goes though a number of versions before it's approved for the final shot. This is probably test 23 or more. I decided to render it out to spare you his naked look! I skipped the hair though, just because it would have taken my computer 3 times as long to render.
Check it out and by all means, CRITIQUE!

Looking cool, although if you check the frames you can see that there is a point around 187-193 where you can see the edge of the background, off to the left. I'm loving the unfolding of the hands.
Thanks for the comments, guys! I'll definitely fix those problems. More tests soon!
Hi Glenn,
Looking good man. I kind of like the camera with a hand held look. More work on your end but it takes away from the "3D feel" and distances it from the perfect computer movement.
I didn't say anything about the initial lip sync cause I knew it wasn't ready. But I am noticing a similarity with the initial version with the latest.
The blendshapes seem to be focused entirely on the lip area.
I'd like to see the cheeks, nose and ears move slightly with the phonemes.
Perhaps you made face controls to layer this in after the lip sync?
Anyway, looking really good. You've been busy the past couple of weeks!
Hey Art,
You sure have the eagle eye! You're right, I haven't done a lot more with the face animation since the last test you saw, but it's on the way! I built special controls for the ears and nose; some cheek movement is built into the mouth blendshapes already; more is built into the eye and brow blendshapes which have barely been touched yet. After I get the broader actions done (body, mouth, eyes), you should start to see more movement in the face, especially in the most exaggerated parts of dialogue. So there's lots more to be busy with! I agree with you on the goal of losing the 3D camera feel too. The more natural, the better. That comes from building in imperfections like lagging/overshooting the point of interest and manual focus. A camera shake is a nice effect too whenever you have jarring action such as a matte painting falling over. ;O)
Great stuff! If you have any other suggestions, lemme know, Art!
Ya, I figured as much. I thought I'd better mention it just in case though.
I hope I don't sound like I'm nitpicking but there is not much point in telling you all the stuff you are doing right (which is a lot). My comments are focusing on areas I think can be improved.
It's nice to get the ego stroked once in a while but it's more productive to hear about the stuff that needs work.
You'll get all the ego-boosting and pats on the back when it counts -
When it's done!!
;)
Amen, Art!

Lookin' su-poib there, Glenn. I like the little gesture on "blindly" a lot.
Anybody else diggin' baldie Zaaarg?
Bald Zarg does have a certain something doesn't he?
I also am digging on the silhouette on the curtain. Might be an "artsy" way to open the film.
Yeah, I like bald Zaaarg too. Hair was an option I threw out there but I'm good either way. Gotta keep the evil goatee tho!
Hey what about tattoo on his head?
I'm hoping the silhouette will be a neat effect. Another idea was to give him an orange rim light keeping with our colour scheme... at least until the armada is revealed, then the predominant colour in the hangar would take over. Hmm, that could be orange too come to think of it.
